My childhood was very difficult with many problems. My parents fought a lot, we did not have enough food to eat and to make matter worse the situation, I could not make many friends because I had a problem with my voice ( eu tinha problema de gaguera- nao sei como diz isso em Ingles). So, I was lonely and sad. My only joy was to go to band practice (Kotekitay) and reading books.
I remember I started to read more books after I had read a Sensei's guidance about " The Joy of Reading". I have been reading it again, but in English.
I stopped reading books in Portuguese after my friend Cintia, from Soka University of America, suggested me to read only books in English. She said I will have to read a lot at Soka University. It was not easy at first but It is easier now. I read books in Portuguese only when my friends give me.
I have also bought Sensei's books once a month. There are many dialogues with Sensei and world leaders. I love reading them. I have learnt, changed and made determinations while I read them. It's amazing!!!
I will write more about the contents of the books later.
Sensei says, " Encountering a great book is like encountered a great teacher. Reading is journey. Read transcends time. Books introduce you to the fragrant flowers of life, to rivers, roads and adventures. Reading gives you free access to the treasure of the human spirit - from all ages, from all parts of the world. I devoted every minute I could spare to reading. I was a voracious reader. I devoured every book I could get my hands on. "
